A study was performed to assess the potential of the wood industry to manufacture new products. Based on a multi-criteria analysis of secondary and primary data collected from various wood-Québec and European producing and wood-using industries, this study, funded by Québec’s Ministère des Forêts, de la Faune et des Parcs (MFFP), presents the results of the extensive survey for the benefit of the wood industry. The study shows the changing nature of wood-based industries and the need for the primary wood products manufacturing industry to acquire agile and flexible manufacturing methods.
This study was carried out as part of the SM2 initiative, which aims, among other things, to diversify sawmilling products or products derived from them, based on smart and agile technologies. This project aimed to enable the sawmilling industry to take advantage of different opportunities occurring in different markets for alternative products.
