On April 2, 3 and 4, 2019, the Québec government’s Ministère des Forêts, de la Faune et des Parcs is inviting everyone concerned in the Quebec’s forest sector to Carrefour Forêts 2019, which will be held at the Centre des congrès de Québec under the theme “From knowledge to the creation of value”.
Under the same banner, the Carrefour is offering a choice of talks, training sessions, workshops, exhibitions, and networking activities, which will mainly focus on:
- the natural dynamics of ecosystems, ecosystem-based management and silviculture;
- climate change;
- the integration of social and environmental issues into forest management; and
- economic aspects and forest management in public and private forest.
Panel on innovation led by Stéphane Renou
As part of the Carrefour, Stéphane Renou, President and CEO of FPInnovations, will serve as moderator for a half-day event on the morning of April 4 to discuss innovation and development in the forest products industry. Participants will have the opportunity to hear his views on the challenges and issues facing the Canadian forest industry and on FPInnovations’ innovation strategies. Afterwards, business leaders from five sectors of the forest industry—sawmilling, building systems, pulp, paper and bioproducts, panels and bioenergy—will discuss how innovation is occurring within their company. This panel led by Mr. Renou is expected to raise a lot of interesting discussions.
FPInnovations’ presentations at the seminars
Sylvain Gagnon, Manager of FPInnovations’ Building Systems group, will be among those leading the seminar En route vers Woodrise 2019 – La construction en bois: une occasion à saisir! (En route to Woodrise 2019 – Building with wood: an opportunity to seize), where the discussions will revolve around the increasing use of wood as a structural and appearance material in various types of buildings around the world. This seminar will provide an overview of the current wood construction sites in Quebec as well as of the Woodrise 2019 international congress on mid-rise and tall wood buildings.
Patrick Lavoie, Senior Scientist in FPInnovations’ Sustainable Development group, will be joining the seminar Aménagement des forêts au Québec dans un contexte de changements climatiques (Forest management in Quebec in the context of climate change). This seminar will take stock of the challenges that forest managers will face in the coming decades and the possible management options. Patrick will present a provincial portrait of the Quebec forest sector’s climate change mitigation potential.
FPInnovations is pleased to be a funding partner of the Gustave-Clodomir-Piché universities poster competition, which will reward the best scientific posters presented by graduate and post-graduate students. As part of the competition, two $2,500 scholarships will be awarded to the winners, in addition to a people’s choice award, which will be presented to the creator of the poster that receives the most votes from visitors at the Espace de la recherche et de l’ innovation during the Carrefour.
