October 11-16, 2018, people from the wood construction industry and the general public were invited to Bordeaux, France, where the Woodrise Festival—a collective and unifying event that brought together some thirty activities—was taking place. The Festival attracted over 1,500 participants, spread out among the professional and general public activities.
Many exhibitions and presentations were held there, including the Quality of Life and Wood Construction Day, which addressed the topics of environmental health as well as quality of life in the home, workplace, city or elsewhere. The Festival’s objective was to maintain the momentum of the Woodrise 2017 conference with local and international professionals, and also to raise awareness among the general public about wood, resource management and construction (read detailed summary here (French text)).
International Woodrise Alliance
The Festival also provided an opportunity for a first meeting, on October 12, of the members of the International Woodrise Alliance, a Multilateral Cooperation Memorandum for the International Development of Wood and Bio-Sourced Material Usage for the Construction or Renovation of Zero-Carbon, Efficient and Resilient Buildings. In addition to the first six research institutes already mobilized under the Alliance, 10 new institutes from various countries have also joined. The complete list of signing parties (referred to as the “Signatories) to the Alliance is available on the Alliance page of the Woodrise 2019 website.
