FPInnovations has a vast range of expertise developed over the years through a number of technical interventions and research projects, giving rise to various operational recommendations for the benefit of its members.
For example, FPInnovations recently provided assistance to a member company with the goal of increasing drying productivity in the short term by approximately 10%. Various aspects of the drying process were evaluated, including sorting, pre–air-drying, drying programs, shutdown procedure for the kilns, and the rates of use for all of these. The success of the approach used depends on clearly defining the needs and carrying out support procedures more than once, thereby ensuring follow-up of the chief recommendations that are based on a thorough analysis of the plant’s drying data.
To date, the intervention has demonstrated drying productivity gains ranging between 10% and 14%, depending on the type of wood dried, while reducing the amount of green pieces after drying. It should be noted that the success of the approach also depends on the plant’s commitment to implementing operational changes ensuing from FPInnovations’ recommendations.
This approach is just one of the many services that FPInnovations can offer the industry to improve operations. For more information on FPInnovations’ various wood drying services, contact Serge Constantineau, SM2 Manager.
