From April 24 to 26, 2017, the city of Minneapolis, Minn., was host to TAPPI’s PaperCon, the world’s largest technical conference for the paper, tissue, non-woven, and packaging industry. Celebrating its 10th anniversary, PaperCon 2017 was held under the theme “Renew, Rethink, Redefine the Future.” The event attracted nearly 1600 people, most of whom were from the pulp and paper and supply industry.
FPInnovations was well represented, with researchers giving three technical presentations, chairing two sessions, and contributing to one poster session in addition to hosting an exhibition. Xuejun Zou, Research Manager of FPInnovations’ Paper, Packaging, and Consumer Products program, was the instructor for the Fibre Preparation for Tissue tutorial; for his part, Javad Saberian, Senior Research Engineer in the Web Performance group, gave a lecture at the Tissue Converting tutorial and had the opportunity to talk about case studies on an efficient approach for solving dimensional stability issues as part of the poster session.
After three years of active presence at PaperCon, FPInnovations’ booth is becoming a “must-visit” for conference participants. As the institute becomes better known, current and potential clients referred by other exhibitors frequently stop to enquire about how FPInnovations can help solve their most challenging mill problems. Combined with the contribution to the conference’s technical program, the PaperCon event has become an absolute must for FPInnovations.
The next edition of PaperCon will be held on April 15, 2018 in Charlotte, N.C., and FPInnovations is already planning its participation. More information can be obtained by contacting Mathieu Blouin from FPInnovations’ Business Development group.
